I worked at a private company from 2010 onwards. I took a break in service at the end of 2013 and rejoined in 2014. However, my break in service has not been updated to reflect the new year, 2014. It still shows the previous year, 2010, only. As a result, I am unable to claim the PF amount now. Please provide a solution to address this issue.

Hi Mahalaxmi,

The same situation was faced by one of my employees. Let me share the whole story that will help you to get your EPF withdrawal easily.

1. A member retired in March 2020; however, he continued in service without any PF deduction.
2. In February 2023, his EPF contribution was reinstated with the same PF code.
3. In January 2024, he wanted to withdraw his EPF, so he marked his exit date as 31st December 2023 on the EPF portal.
4. He applied for full and final EPF withdrawal but it got rejected due to the following reasons:
A. Seeking clarification from the employer on his missing contributions during April 2020 to January 2023.
5. We approached the EPF office with a submission stating that the EPF was deducted in that period due to mutual understanding. The EPFO advised me to allot him a new PF code with some minimum contribution and then submit a letter to transfer the previous EPF balance to the new PF code.
6. By complying with this, we allocated a new PF code, joining him from 18th March 2024, and approached the EPF office again. We received a mail from EPFO requesting the following:
A. Submit a joint declaration form for correction in the date of exit of the old PF code from December 2023 to March 2020, and also submit another joint declaration form for correction in the date of joining in the new PF code from 18th March 2024 to 1st February 2023.
7. We have now done the same, and the matter is under consideration before the EPFO office. Hopefully, we will get the final resolution soon.

Thanks,
Anil Pandey
