Hi
Can you tell your qualification? Even in garments industry you have tremendous career growth in all the departments. As per your points I feel as your position might be as production co-ordinator or merchandiser.

Hi Shalini
Even in production side there are better career prospect. One thing you should keep in mind is especially in garments industry you should be bold enough as well as should be very cautious coz you will be co-ordinating with many of Illeterate and with few of people having very less educated and with few educated employees and there are more of politics. This politics are there in all the industries but the most in garment industry. If you are in production you should always stick to the dead lines as Shipment date and should not bother about the late nights. If need more details you shall reach me.

Hello Shalini
Career progression can be in any organisation as per that Company policy.
Does this Garment Factory have any such policy?
Is there an orgnisation chart to design a career path?
A fresher can be an MBA in Marketing and Finanace and can still manage a Shop Floor in a garment factory.
But he needs to put in lot of efforts in understanding how the various manufacturing stages move.
In the interface with the work force if he has technically qualified Supervisors reporting to him then his job would be easier.
If he is directly incharge he must learn the manufacturing steps as an engineer would. Certainly a big challenge but not impossible.
As you may be aware IAS officers move from one field to another totally different field with very less time to gain insight of the nuances of the new field. Many are still successful.
So the incumbent has to first prove his mettle in his present job
atleast for a year or two.
If the company policy permits, he can switch back to his parent discipline of Finance Or Marketing.
The experience gained in the shop floor will stand in good stead.
If he continues in the same manufacturing role, then he may have to compete with his peers.
By the way what would be the next positon and who would be his peers?
