Hello friends and seniors,

I am conducting a research project on "HR practices in an organization" as a part of my MBA curriculum. Please help me with how to proceed with it. There are no dependent or independent variables; how should I begin the research? Please assist me.

Thank you.

Dear Ami,

It is nice to see your interest in the research project. I think you may ponder upon the following points:

(1) Read some research articles on your topic or interest area. This will give you an idea and bring you in sync with the current research stage of the topic. Where to get: the internet is one option, check with your college if they have access to online research pages, magazines, etc., and contact and discuss with your professors.

(2) Read some articles on your topic from books, the internet, magazines, newspapers, etc., and keep an eye on them.

(3) There are no set dependent and independent variables; once you decide on the area, you can also decide on the variables. This is more an area of concern in quantitative research.

(4) Once you know the details of the topic, try to get the questionnaire (maybe your professors can help you get validated and scientific questionnaires). Even if you face difficulty, you can prepare something on your own to gather qualitative data at least; based on that, you can prepare your project.

(5) Contact the HR department of some companies, specifically known for 'HR best practices' (if this is your subject). They can fill out the questionnaires. You can also compare them with other companies that may be well-known for their 'HR best practices.'

Please respond with your further queries.

Dear Ami,

Rahul Thapar has given you sound advice. Where will you be doing the study? Please access https://www.citehr.com/301192-my-mba-project.html and follow what Mary Christy did.

Have a nice day.

Hello Rahul,

Thank you for the valuable inputs. I went through some journals available online in my college, but these journals could only be accessed from the college. Could you please tell me some free websites where I can read research material at home?

Ami

Sir,

I would be doing my study in a manufacturing organization that deals in steel manufacture. I went through "my MBA project" by Christy; it was really helpful. Could you please tell me some online journals' websites that could be accessed without fees?

Dear Ami,

You need to search. Try BNET - The CBS Interactive Business Network. You need to register on that site, and you can download some of their articles. Even when you have to pay, try writing to the authors for a copy.

Have a nice day.
