Dear Seniors,

I am a Training Manager at an international hotel that has recently opened. I have taken over the task that was haphazardly done by the previous employee. I am starting from scratch with several departments (loss of documents), and a large number of employees rely on me to establish an effective training department. The issue I'm facing is that we have to persuade employees to participate to ensure a class is conducted. (There are only two of us in the department; Training Manager & Training Coordinator)

My dilemma:

- How can I generate interest in learning so that employees volunteer for the classes?
- How should I calculate training hours for each department? (Month To Date/Year To Date) For example, one department has 7 different training programs, 106 staff members, and trainings vary from 1 day to 3 days.
- How do I establish a Training Policy and procedure?

I would greatly appreciate your kind assistance.

Dear Riya,

Most of the training professionals face the same problem that you are facing. This is not restricted to just the hospitality industry or your hotel. First, identify various KRAs for every department. Training is required to enhance the effectiveness of the staff so that they can meet those KRAs. You will get support from HODs if you adopt this route.

Ok...
