Dear All,

I am working in a manufacturing company as an HR Executive. It's a new unit, and of late, someone is scribbling dirty texts/lines on the toilet doors from inside. What can be done to stop this indecent behavior of the workers? Please advise.

It's simple, two things can be done:

1. Clean the whole thing & put God's name or the right Om all over it.
2. Whoever writes God's name nicely will be awarded with Rs. 500. (Through it, you will come to know who is actually doing it).

I suppose you can't write or paste God's picture or name onto the toilet door. What you can do is to arrange a housekeeping boy exclusively for the toilet alone (if your company is big) and give him/her the responsibility that nothing of this sort should be seen. So he/she will make sure of the cleanliness maintained in the toilets.

Do one thing. Put dark pants on the back side of the toilet door. Call a meeting of workers and communicate with them, and ask them to give suggestions.

You can form a group of workers who will check these activities, and after every month, change the group and involve new people, and give them responsibility. It will work. If it works, please inform me at 98260.12640.

Dear Firoz,

This type of situation comes from humans, not God, so never paste God's name or picture for the same. I advise you to call a meeting of workers and also contact his senior to convey the same message strictly to all. For your information, the production supervisor is well aware of this, so focus on the production supervisor.

For better understanding, feel free to call me.

I have read this story somewhere, but it fits here right.

According to a news report, a certain private school in Sydney was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. After they put on their lipstick, they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night, the maintenance man would remove them, and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally, the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night - (you can just imagine the yawns from the little princesses). To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.

Moral to this story: There are teachers... and then there are educators.

Dear Amit Sharma,

I tried doing that. I warned the workers orally and even circulated a warning letter in Marathi. However, after some days, there were still instances of something being written...

Thank you.

Whether they are writing with pen or chalk? If they are writing in pen or pencil, you can paint the door with dark blue color paint so that nothing will be visible. They will lose interest in writing when no one can see it.

We had a similar issue and painted the doors with dark blue paint. After painting, this problem was solved. Instruct the cleaning boy to observe the frequent toilet users. He has to check the doors once the suspected persons use them. This way, you can catch them and warn them.

Restrict the issue of permanent markers to workers.

All you people,

It's amazing to see the regard and sensitivity we all have towards God. But, do understand one thing - in God's world, being God's creation, people are engaging in activities that are natural and come from nature. We have always believed that God is everywhere, haven't we?

As we contradict this and say it's not advisable to put God's name in the bathroom despite God being everywhere, in the same manner, the workers, who are humans, believe God is not present in the bathroom. It's not something weird that you would do; it's just that you are making them realize what they are doing.

Have a full-length mirror at the back and warn workers that if that mirror is found to be broken, a certain sum of money will be charged from all of them. Although it may be the fault of a single individual, everyone will have to bear the cost of the fine.

Dear Master,

Here are my suggestions:

1. Please post a notice on the toilet door stating that no bills or words are to be stuck or written on it. Additionally, include a fine of Rs 500 for such actions.

2. Kindly verify with the housekeeping staff to identify all the suspects and issue warnings accordingly.

Thank you.

Dear Master Firoz,
It’s an extremely dirty habit and disconcerting for most people. Only a disturbed mind can resort to it. The condition of the individual can later worsen and translate into acts of sexual violence, if not checked earliest!
Please try the following:-
1. Re-paint the doors.
2. Warn all employees that if the doors are defaced again stern action will be taken against the offenders.
3. The perpetrator will want to deface the doors with a vengeance!
4. Keep the house-keeping boy alert to record the visit of each individual with time of visit. He should inspect the toilet after every visit of individuals or groups.
5. When some graffiti is found it can be photographed and linked to the visit.
6. Stern action should be taken against the offender as an example to all others.
I am certain your problem will be solved.
Good luck.
