Well.
First decide what you shall be providing the summer interns =( as in equipment, stipend etc).
Write them down.
Also write the terms and conditions to which the trainee has to adhere to while in your organisation.
Remember, interns are not your employees, but they can be talented and maybe your future employees, so treat them well, and they are just freshers (most of the time) with zero knowlegde of the practical work, so be light on them regarding this,

Thanks for the inputs. It has been observed in my company that interns are being hired from all types of sources - be it business schools, referrals, etc. I want to have well-drafted regulations on the same. Can you throw more light on this?

The Best way to get info on this is that get in touch with someone who ahs done a Summer Internsip, and get hold of the authorization letter that the Organisation Provides to him.
As I said, first decide on what are you going to provide to the interns, i.e. Equipment etc.. Stipend, depending on the department in which he/she goes in.
Do include in the document a clause which states that your organisation shall noot be held liable towards anything, and providing summer internship is just a gesture on your part.
If you can, grab hold of MTNL/BSNL or MARUTI's summer intern letters, they have all rules drafted in the letter which they give to the intern.
