Hi, I have joined a startup firm that is in the education/Edtech sector. The company is not generating revenue yet and sometimes pays salary in cash. We have not registered for PF (Provident Fund) yet, so we are not providing salary slips.

Now, one of the employees is leaving the company and has asked me to provide him with salary proof so he can submit it to his next employer. How can I assist him with this?

All establishments, whether a start-up or a well-established company, should provide payslips in accordance with the legal format. It is immaterial whether you have ESI or EPF registration. Therefore, you should issue payslips to the employees. In the absence of a system-generated payslip, you can prepare it in Excel or Word and provide it under the seal and signature of the company. The prescribed format of the payslip will be available on the official website of your state's labor department.
