Dear Senthil,

Your question is not clear to me. With whom do you want to register as contract labor? There is no need for the registration of employees under the TN Catering Establishments Act, 1958; on the other hand, only establishments need to be registered under the Act. If you are a contractor supplying 20 or more laborers to any Catering Establishment under a contract with the establishment, you have to obtain a contractor's license, and the establishment has to register itself as the principal employer under the CLRA Act, 1970.

In case you are an employee of a catering establishment, you would be covered by the Tamil Nadu Labor Welfare Fund Act, 1970, through an annual subscription payable by your employer and yourself.

Dear Senthil,

Chennai city has three Licensing Officers under the CLRAA, 1970, namely Assistant Commissioner of Labor (Enforcement) I, II, and III. You need to approach the officer within whose geographical area your contract labor are likely to be deputed and obtain a license after paying the license fee, security deposit based on the number of contract labor, along with a form provided by the Principal Employer.

It is advisable to inquire at the Labor Commissioner's Office at D.M.S Compound, Teynampet, Chennai-6.
