Hi, I have been working with one of the edutech companies. At the time of recruitment, I was given a contractual role, and after one year, they confirmed my role as full-time in March 2022. Now, this company said that there would be a 3rd party background verification, and we need to provide details of our education and past employment, which I did.

In my educational qualifications, I only submitted my B.Ed and forgot to upload my B.Com and MBA, and the BGV was closed. After a month, I got a call from HR stating that my B.Ed is not validated by the university and to provide evidence.

After hearing this news, I immediately approached the university, and they stated that the management has sold off the college to some other party, and they don't have their old management working with them anymore. When I told this to my HR, she doesn't want to buy my point. Also, I told the HR to consider my other certificates and initiate a BGV for which she was adamant, stating that since I have submitted B.Ed for BGV, she would only question me on this and will not consider any other.

Please help me with what to do in such a situation. I have been duped by the university, which I've mentioned to my HR, but she is not ready to listen and says to provide a letter from the university stating the same. The university refused to answer me. Kindly advise.

No one can obtain a B.Ed. degree without a basic degree or P.G. degree recognized for the purpose.

The poster should disclose whether the B.Ed. degree was awarded by the college or the university and whether the university to which the college was affiliated is recognized by the U.G.C.

But Umakanth Sir, my company would just not buy my point, and I am being questioned badly on how I have attained this degree. However, I have told my company's HR alternatively to verify my B.Com and MBA instead of B.Ed, but they are just refusing to do so, stating that since I have submitted B.Ed documents for BGV, they will only consider that.

Please advise me on how to convince my HR, and also, will I be blacklisted, or should I resign first.

Please advise.

First important matter you have not clarified is, on what basis did the company hire you? Was it based on the fact that you have a B.Com/MBA or that you have a B.Ed degree?

If you got the job based on your B.Ed degree, and it turns out to be fake, then obviously your employment has no basis, and they are definitely within their rights to reject your contention and terminate you.

What you probably should do is go to the relevant manager and ask them what they wish to do. If they wish to retain you (which would be based on your performance), then I am sure he will speak to HR and make a decision. On the other hand, if they don't want you, you may as well start looking for another job.

Dear Anonymous,

First of all, please do not worry about this issue. BGV verification issues are very common in India and should be handled in a prudent manner.

Practical advice - despite a change in management of your college/university, you need to check for a contact person who will look into the records and confirm the award and details of the degree. I would suggest visiting your college/university briefly to speak to the person designated to handle the verification of awarded degrees. Usually, there is a team/person in the college who deals with this.

Do not worry, it should be verified, and then your BGV results should be satisfactory.

Thank you.

Even if the college is sold off, the records regarding admissions made would be permanent records of it and would be available. They cannot just wash their hands off, saying that there is a change of management. By the way, did you not receive the degree certificate from the University? It is only the college that is sold off; the University remains in safe hands. Since all colleges have to report to the university on the admissions made every year, the University also would have the record. It can be accessed.

You can also use the provisions of RTI Act 2005 to get confirmation.

I was awarded the degree, but during BGV, this university refused to disclose my student information, which has put my job at risk for me submitting forged credentials.
