Can someone please clarify the following:

How many days should be taken into account when calculating monthly salary to daily wages?
Should we pay salary for public holidays or not? If we can pay 26 days' salary in a month regardless of the number of working days, please provide me with the relevant circular.

Thank you.

Dear Sastry,

I think that your query is about the conversion of monthly rates of minimum wages to daily rates. You can find the method of conversion mentioned in the explanatory note of the G.O. issued by the appropriate Government fixing the minimum wages under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. You have to divide the monthly rate by 26 to arrive at the daily rate. In the case where only a daily rate has been fixed, you have to multiply it by 30 to arrive at the monthly rate. For all practical purposes, a month is deemed to have 30 days regardless of the actual days in the calendar month.

Always remember, public holidays are paid holidays only.

If you still need further clarification, you may refer to the previous threads on the same subject.

Sir, please clarify whether we have to pay salary for 2nd and 4th Saturdays and public holidays in a month or not. For example, in June 2019 there are 5 Sundays, 2 Saturdays, and one public holiday. We are currently paying salary for 22 days only. Please clarify how many days we should be paying for. If salary is to be paid for Saturdays and holidays, please provide a circular to that effect.
