I am working as a Chartered Accountant (CA) consultant in a Pvt Ltd Company for three months. Recently, I received a job offer with a higher package. Earlier, I had committed to work for the long term; however, there is no contract document (only an email where I accepted this consultant offer). My present employer is helpful, and I treat him as a god since he assisted me during difficult times three months ago. Now, I want to resign as a consultant and accept the new job offer. However, I feel that I may be breaching trust. How should I approach this matter with my current employer? What reason should I give for resigning? Should I share my feelings? Please help and guide me.

It's better not to make any decisions when you are not emotionally stable, whether you are happy or sad. What was the long term you had in your mind?
Go to your employer and openly speak to him. Tell him you have got a better offer and would like to move on. For all you know, he may himself voluntarily tell you to move on or give a better offer. Otherwise, give him notice and move on. He has been helpful, but hopefully, you also would have worked sincerely and done your fair bit.
