I was working with one of the leading FMCG companies, and I was not comfortable with the behavior of my boss. So, I have resigned and left the company. They have completed all legal formalities without giving me any trouble.
Now I have some doubts:
(1) What should I tell the interviewer as the reason for leaving the company?
(2) Since the last month, I have had no job. So, I need advice on what reason I should give in an interview for the gap in employment.

How long were you in the company? Just tell the new company that you were looking for a change to gain wider exposure and experience. One month is not a big gap. Ideally, you should have secured another job before quitting. What guarantee is there that you will like your new boss?

You left the job as not pulling well with your boss. Have you ever tried to know the reason for the dislike? How do you think the new boss and assignment would be a good one? Try to amend your attitude, behavior, and thinking, which would stand you in good stead for the future. Always reason out that the resignation was due to an urgent matter on the domestic front, which required substantial time. The previous company was not agreeable to provide a long leave (keep a solid reason to believe by one).

Dear colleague,
If you were not feeling comfortable working with your boss, why did you not take it up with higher authorities? Your decision to leave the job without securing another one was not correct. In my view, you should tell the facts to the interviewer and don't attempt to hide anything.

Dear Anon:
You will not always have a boss of your liking. Adjustments have to be made (by you) towards accepting his behavior and attitude. This is an absolute bottom line.
Coming to your query, NEVER speak ill of your last boss, the company, or its culture. One leaves for a better opening, an advancement in the career, for some enhanced training and development, or for higher studies. Very rarely it could be for domestic or familial reasons.
The reason you could offer for the break - and this should not be fake - is you are working on improving your social and soft skills with friends and, better still, at a training and development institute/center, helping you to better interact with the people and the environment.
Hope these lines help.
Never lie!

Dear All,
Thank you for your reply. I realize that I have provided incomplete information to you. My boss's behavior is very bad towards all other staff members as well. This issue has already reached our higher management, and they have advised him to resign many times. However, we are unaware of the full story between him and the management.

As I mentioned, I have been relieved by them without any trouble. They have completed all legal formalities smoothly, cleared all my dues, and issued me the relieving letter. However, they have not mentioned the actual reason for my resignation to our top management. Many staff members have left in the last few months due to our boss, and no new staff have joined for this reason.

Dear Anon,
Don't bother about "the story between him and management." What you need to tell the panel (interviewing committee) at the time of the interview is that you had come to a dead end in terms of promotion/professional growth and had some domestic issues that could not be avoided and needed a lot of your time - these are the reasons for parting ways with your last employer.
Mentally realign yourself with the cultural setup of the future employer. Hopefully, you will be a great performer.
Gather yourself and best of luck.

Dear Anon,
Your selection depends on how well you go through the interview process. If you are well-grounded in your hard skills, have interacted well with your soft and social skills, exhibited resilience, and presence of mind in challenging situations during the interview, then hopefully you are in.
As far as the salary is concerned, you will have to weigh your 'assets,' and how well you have negotiated and bargained will be the deciding factors for the compensation package. Remember, nothing comes for free.
