In my opinion, the Hospital/ Healthcare industry will be under Shops and Establishment Act.

Many members of Citehr are suggesting that healthcare / hospital industry comes under factory act also. I would appreciate some clarification on the same.

I also work in the Hospital/Healthcare industry only. You do not need to get registered under the Factories Act as it is supposed to be done by the units that come under the manufacturing of the product.
The Factories Act of 1948 clearly states that in any premises, when 10 employees along with electric power, or 20 employees without electric power, are engaged in the manufacturing process, they have to get registered under the Factories Act.

Dear Sir,
Hospitals and nursing homes in Karnataka are exempted from the Shop and Establishment Act, and as such, the provisions of the Factories Act are not applicable. There has been a separate enactment for hospitals and nursing homes, but till date, no rules have been made, and hence the provisions of the Act are not applicable.

As per Section 3 of the Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishment Act, nothing in this Act shall apply to any establishment for the treatment or care of the sick, infirm, or the mentally unfit. Therefore, in Karnataka, the provisions of the Act are not applicable.
