Can I omit my first job from my resume where I worked for 1.5 years, because of the wrong end date on the relieving letter? If I omit a career gap of 3 years, is it still okay? I will share the facts with HR regarding the reason for the omission, but I don't want to give them a chance to ruin my life. Showing this experience could fail in background verification due to employment overlap if there is no wrong feedback that employer 'A' has knowingly done.

I left the company named 'A' Z* Solutions citing family problems and did not serve the notice period as I had a big opportunity with C Solutions. Company A did not provide a relieving letter; they mentioned they would provide it after one month. I then joined the next company, and after a month, when I asked for the relieving letter, they provided it with the current date as my last working day. The HR head mentioned, "Do whatever you want today; you came to collect," and then indicated that they were going to handle the situation cleverly. I do not have proof to take legal action against them.

Am I doing the right thing?

Hi Reetesh,

Don't ever show a career gap on your resume. I would suggest you to get the document date corrected. Instead, you should not have accepted the letter with the wrong last working day. Email the previous HR and request them for a correction.

The company is not changing, and it is just unprofessional behavior. Defending by saying, "We gave you the freedom to do whatever you want," how can one explain to others? How can HR head itself correct such behavior and harassment, especially when the HR head is a shareholder of the company?

Please help me understand how to address this situation.
