Hello,

I had a negative experience with an employer and do not wish to associate myself with that employer one year from now when I get another job. I do not wish to leave any traces, so I do not want my new employer to see that company in my UAN/PF history.

Unfortunately, despite my repeated requests, HR has linked that PF to UAN. Can someone please help me understand: 1) How can I delink PF from UAN? 2) Does transferring money from the previous employer's PF account to the new employer's PF through UAN delete the PF history of the previous PF account? Does an empty PF account (money withdrawn) get delinked by itself, and thus, the history is erased?

Hello Purvi,

I understand your concern about keeping your past employment history private. However, I'm sorry to inform you that the de-linking of the Provident Fund (PF) account from the Universal Account Number (UAN) is not possible once it has been linked. This is because the UAN is intended to be a single point of reference for all member contributions throughout the working life of an individual.

To answer your queries:

1) As mentioned, it isn't possible to de-link a PF account from a UAN after it has been linked. The UAN is a unique number linked to an individual employee and is used for the management of the PF account. Once your PF number is linked to the UAN, it cannot be de-linked.

2) Transferring money from your previous employer's PF account to your new employer's PF account through the UAN does not delete the PF history of the previous PF account. This is because the UAN serves as a comprehensive record of an employee's service history across multiple employers. So, your previous employment record will still be visible.

An empty PF account (money withdrawn) does not get delinked by itself and the history does not get wiped off. Even after withdrawal of the PF amount, the details of the account remain in the UAN history.

📌 The purpose of the UAN is to keep a comprehensive and consolidated record of an employee's service history, so it's not feasible to remove traces of past employment from it.

However, please note that your future employer will not have access to the specific details of your past employment, like the reason for leaving the previous job, your performance, or any other personal details. They can only see the tenure of your previous employment.

I hope this clears up your queries. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Best,
