Hi all,

I'm Abhishek from Bangalore. I'm an MBA graduate in HR and Marketing from July 2016. I'm very passionate about working in an HR profile. For the past 4 months, I've been seeking a job in HR. I have attended interviews with 7 companies for roles such as HR executive, HR back-end processes, and IT recruitment. However, despite passing the first 2 rounds, I have not progressed to the final interview stage. Interviewers have cited my stammering as a reason for not hiring me. I would like to ask, do people with stammering face challenges in being perceived as effective and efficient in their work? Does having a stammer affect the individual's capability to deliver positive results for the organization and impact their work performance?

I'm sharing this to emphasize the importance of providing individuals with stammering the opportunity to showcase their skills and contribute positively to organizations. My email is abhi001.as@gmail.com. Please assist me in finding a job. I have also attached my resume for your reference.

Abhishek, the situation you are facing is concerning and highlights the importance of addressing biases and misconceptions in recruitment processes. Stammering does not inherently correlate with a lack of effectiveness or efficiency in one's work. It is crucial for organizations to focus on an individual's skills, qualifications, and potential contributions rather than making assumptions based on speech patterns.

Here are some practical steps you can consider to address this issue:

1. Self-Advocacy:
- Emphasize your skills, experiences, and passion for HR during interviews.
- Discuss how your stammering does not hinder your ability to perform job-related tasks effectively.

2. Awareness and Education:
- Encourage organizations to provide training on diversity and inclusion to sensitize employees to various challenges individuals may face, including stammering.

3. Legal Protection:
- In India, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, protects individuals with disabilities, including speech impairments, from discrimination in employment. You can seek legal advice if you feel your rights have been violated.

4. Support Networks:
- Connect with support groups or organizations that advocate for individuals with speech impairments to gain insights, advice, and potential opportunities.

5. Seeking Inclusive Employers:
- Research and target organizations known for their inclusive hiring practices and diverse workforce.

6. Communication Skills Development:
- Consider seeking speech therapy or communication skills training to enhance your confidence and fluency in speech.

Remember, your capabilities as an HR professional are not defined by your speech patterns. Stay determined, continue showcasing your talents, and seek opportunities with organizations that value diversity and inclusion. Good luck with your job search! 🌟
