Hello, I need to write a 2500-word essay on 'Leading organizational change' subject. My question is: "Imagine you are a manager in a change situation (e.g., severe crisis situation, product innovation, reorganization of a division, entering a new market, etc.). Critically explain how you would personally lead this change. Which leadership theories and concepts would inform your behavior? What are the limitations of this leadership behavior? What leadership skills do you need to develop and how to provide this specific leadership?"

I am unable to find a specific change situation. Also, it has to be a real situation and not imaginary! Please kindly help me!

Dear friend,

You wanted to write an essay containing 2,500 words, but you have not mentioned why you wanted to write it. Are you pursuing your doctorate?

In your post, you have provided examples of a few situations that a Change Manager has to face. However, let me specify here that the situations you have mentioned are not handled at the managerial level but at the topmost management level. To effect a change of that magnitude, a person has to be a CEO or Managing Director (MD).

You may look into the case study of British Airways, which was turned around by Sir Colin Marshall.

Another case study could be that of Umesh Chowdhary of Titagarh Wagons. He acquired the French company Arbel Fauvet Rail in 2010 and rescued it from bankruptcy. After the acquisition, it was rebranded as Titagarh Wagons AFR.

Your additional questions are, "Which leadership theories and concepts would inform your behavior? What are the limitations of this leadership behavior? What leadership skills do you need to develop, and how can you enhance this specific leadership?"

A leader needs to have a strategic mindset. The behavioral aspect of leadership is adequate up to the GM/VP level, but at the CEO level, his/her focus is outward, not inward.

Thanks,
