I have recently completed my LL.B. in April 2016. I would like to enroll my name in the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh. Can anybody let me know the procedure to enroll? I heard that we have to attend a written test to qualify. If anybody has the model or previous exam papers, kindly help me.

Dear P SRINIVAS ji,

Congratulations on passing LL.B.

First and foremost, if you wish to apply for a certificate of practice, you need to resign from your employment and apply for registration as an advocate to the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh in the prescribed form with the prescribed fee to the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh and to the Bar Council of India.

Please read the Bar Council of A.P. Rules and also the Bar Council of India Rules. There is no exam by any of the Bar Councils other than the Bar Council of India. This exam is called the All India Bar Examination, and one has to clear it within 2 years from registration with the Bar Council at the High Court level.

Once you pass this exam, you will be awarded a certificate of practice by the Bar Council of India and will be eligible to practice the legal profession in India. This exam is applicable to those who have passed out after 2010 and are willing to practice in the court of law/legal profession.

Advocacy is a full-time profession; therefore, you should not be engaged in any other profession, employment, business, or on a board of directors.
