Hi all, hope you all are doing well!

I am very depressed with my current job; I need help. Please tell me how I can proceed with it. Please guide me.

I am BTech MBA. After 10-15 interviews, I was eager to get a job, and I got an HR trainee job (I am a fresher) after 5-6 months. However, they told me that I have to sign a 2.5-year service agreement (bond - in which if I leave the company within that period, I have to pay Rs 1.5 lakhs, with a salary of Rs 13,000). I needed the job, and everything else was fine, so I agreed to it initially. Now, at first, the HR was pretending to be very nice and wonderful people, but now they are showing their true colors.

We are only two people in the HR department, me and her (my HR manager). After 1 month of my joining, she left for marriage and a 5-month vacation, and she told me this 10 days before leaving. I felt betrayed but thought it's okay.

I didn't receive any training on how things work, and I was left with all 8-9 major openings and day-to-day HR work, including everything! But I thought, let it be, I'll learn this and did everything by researching online and somehow managing.

But now that she is back, they (the director and HR manager) are showing their true colors and mentally harassing me every other day, saying things indirectly, pinpointing, etc., with no major reason or issues. Now I am in a position where I can't leave due to this bond, as I don't have Rs 1.5 lakhs to give, and I am unable to handle this mental torture. I am not happy with this.

And if I decide to leave without giving them any resignation or notice, then my work of all these 7+ months will go to waste, and I can't start fresh as a fresher because there will be too much of a gap. I am feeling very depressed. Please tell me how I can get out of this situation, or any alternative I can work with. I will be grateful for any help or guidance. Thank you.

Hi,

After going through all your points, I came to the following conclusions. Please take this as advice and see if it will work for you.

1) You have been with that company for the last 7 months. Why don't you talk to your manager about his/her issues? Take a suggestion from him/her and ask what exactly his/her expectations are. You can only avoid their complaints when you understand the reasons for them. My experience suggests there may be some gap in expectations.

2) I completely agree with your points, Sheetal, but every coin has two faces. Don't give up. Remember those days when you had no job. Try to mitigate the issues. If there is no learning and you feel it's all a waste, just move on.

Remember one thing - you have 7 months of real-time experience. Even if it's not on paper, you will not be the same as a fresher. I am sure by this time you have acquired qualities that are visible to other companies and set you apart from freshers.

Thanks, Shilpi
