Hi all,

I have a doubt. My friend was terminated a few years ago, but she did not receive a termination letter. She received her full and final settlement as well as an experience certificate. Is it possible for her to obtain a relieving letter now? If so, how should she proceed?

Thank you.

Dear Tanushiya,

As your friend has received the F&F Settlement and Experience Certificate, the same can be used as a relieving letter. What is the purpose of obtaining one more relieving letter? While leaving the organization, she might have already obtained the clearance certificate duly signed by all departments, ensuring the completion of the F&F Settlement. Therefore, there is no need to worry about acquiring another relieving letter.

Experience letter: Does this experience letter mention anything about the cause of separation or reason for leaving? The necessity for a relieving letter, per se, would be realized only if and when your prospective employer might insist on such a document. My fear is that, at this point in time, it could be a deciding factor. The cause of separation, wherever mentioned, is vital documentary proof for removing any doubt that may be looming large on your past performance. If possible, it's better to obtain it. I don't want to sound negative but as a precaution. Moreover, a relieving letter would signify and be understood as 'no dues' from you. Best of luck.

Your friend's requirement is fulfilled by her full and final settlement, and mostly by the receipt of an experience certificate. An experience certificate is very important compared to a termination letter for the purpose of her future employment.

Looking at the facts mentioned by you in the query, it is quite possible to get the relieving letter if you need it. Of course, I do not understand (as other seniors have asked) why you need it at all when you have the F & F settlement letter and also the experience letter. All the best.

Reason for termination should be specific, please specify on what grounds your friend got terminated few years back. IF he or she has no fault then can claim the reliving letter
