My father retired as an Assistant Director in ESIC in 2012. Subsequently, he was receiving a pension. Three days ago, he passed away due to a brain stroke. My query is regarding the provisions for benefits in the event of the death of a pensioner.

1. Dear member, in respect of services of ESIC employees, Central Govt. Service Rules are applicable. Accordingly, when your father was receiving a pension from ESIC, the continuation of further benefits, if any, for the family members will be as per the provisions of Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules. Some terms and conditions must have also been mentioned in the PPO (Pension Payment Order) issued by ESIC authorities. Please review the relevant papers and approach the appropriate authorities accordingly, if necessary.

2. I would like to further inform you that on this site, generally, views are expressed by seniors/experts regarding various labor laws and HR matters only.

3. For further clarification on any pension-related matters, I believe the ESIC Pensions' Association would be the appropriate forum to discuss the issue. The ESIC Pensions Association has branches in almost all regions/sub-regions, and its meetings usually occur on the last working day of the month or the first working day. You can reach out to the association in the region/sub-region where your father was receiving his pension. I am a retired officer from ESIC, and if you require additional clarification, feel free to contact me via email. May God bless the departed soul.

Mr. Shiv,

You should go to ESIC Head Office Benefit Branch and discuss your matter. According to the act, your mother will get benefits.

For further detailed instructions, please read the ESIC Act of 1948.
