Dear Friends,

As you all know, I am working at Bharath Salt Refineries Ltd as a Human Resource Professional. We are currently in the process of deploying 1000 new members in our company, and our management has decided to appoint a Welfare Officer as per the Government G.O. requirement, which specifies the necessity of an individual with an IRPM qualification for this role. However, being a Human Resource specialist, I am well-versed in Industrial Relations (I.R) due to my studies during my MBA program.

My question is, does my profile align with the qualifications needed for this position? I would appreciate your insights on this matter, my friends.

Thank you.

Dear Abhiram,

As per the Factory Act, Section 49, if five hundred or more workers are employed, welfare officers need to be appointed. Generally, the qualification required for this post is BSW or MSW (Bachelor of Social Work or Master in Social Work).

Dear Abhiram ji,

Qualification for Welfare Officer under FA is not generally BSW/MSW. It depends upon the State rules in this regard. You need to see the rules as framed by the appropriate Government of your state.

In Maharashtra, to qualify for this post, one has to give a viva-voce test and enroll in the list maintained by the Labour Department. Disqualifications are also mentioned in the rules. Notification under the Maharashtra rules regarding qualification of degrees/diplomas has listed as many as 20 or more such degrees/diplomas as recognized, to my knowledge.
