Hi Everyone,

Please tell me, does Overtime Policy really exist in India? I work in a software company as an HR Executive. It is a small company with 40-50 employees, but the work pressure is high. Hence, all the developers stay overnight to complete their work, and they often ask for overtime (OT) or comp-off.

I am really confused about whether they should be classified under OT or if they are simply delaying their work, which is why they stay overnight. Please guide me.

Thanks & Regards

It is important to determine whether the workload can be completed within an 8-hour workday or if it is heavy enough to extend beyond the normal work hours. Members may not have this information, so please conduct the necessary groundwork before assessing their eligibility for overtime.

Overtime policies do exist in India, as rightly stated by Mr. Sai Kumar. Your line manager has to assess and analyze whether the work allotted can be finished within 8 hours or not. I have seen that developers are given a time limit to finish the project or develop the software. Sometimes, the developers take their own convenience and finish it, but at times they have to stay overnight to complete the project. It is advisable to sit with the line manager and allocate a workload that can be completed stage by stage within 8 hours.
