Dear sheereni
Its unlawful one, but its differ based on the service ,sate wise , Pls refer your state shops act
Example: - Delhi shop Act
Section 30 :-

Dear Nishat,
I am not aware of the Delhi shops and establishments act. However, as per my knowledge, if an employee is provided offer (appointment letter is stronger than offer), he /she cannot be terminated all of a sudden. It is a long process, wherein you need to get a guidance from a legal practitioner. The labor laws protect the welfare of employees against the possible exploitation by the employers.

From India, New Delhi
Normally the letter of appointment contains a clause as to hwo the contarct of servcie can be terminated eithr by the employer or by the employee.Even in the absence of such clause in the letter of appointment, the Shops Act of the States concerned contain provision with regard to notice of termination. Please verify the Shops Act of your state in this regard.
