Hi all,
Good morning. I need your suggestions to improve my career in HR. I have been working in the HR department of a small company for the past 2 years. Unfortunately, I am facing issues with receiving my salary on time, even though my designation is Senior HR Executive and my responsibilities are substantial.
I am unsure whether it is better to hold a lower-level position in a larger company or to have a higher-level position in a smaller company. Can you please provide me with some advice?
Thank you,

Dear Chiranjeevi Ji,
To me, designation is not a matter. What is important to me is what I produce, what I deliver, and in turn, what I get. I believe if I produce well, if I deliver well, I am going to receive well. No doubt, designation helps you to project yourself, but it has no meaning if you have nothing to produce.
According to me, you have more opportunities to produce and deliver effectively in a smaller organization. You have the chance to prove your abilities in a smaller organization. You learn more, enhance your knowledge, expand your area of functions and boundaries in a smaller organization, not in a bigger one.
My suggestion to you is that at the beginning of your career, you should not focus on joining bigger organizations and aiming for higher designations.
Some companies may offer you more than you deserve in terms of salary and designation. However, such designations are merely on paper. You may get stuck in such positions. I have witnessed many cases like this.
You need to make your own decisions based on various parameters. I wish you good luck.

Dear Seniors,
Thank you for your valuable suggestions.
Could you please provide me with the documents of the HR Department that are followed by some top companies? This will help me understand the policies and procedures of the company.

Hi Chiranjeevi,
Both Keshav and Govind Singh have good suggestions. Chiranjeevi, you have mentioned you don't get your salary on time, which is not good. We work for a salary and not for charity. What is the use of a high designation without getting paid for the work you have done?
You have worked in a small company for 2 years. It is now time to try to get a job in a big company. You already know how the small company functions; now try to gain practical experience working in an MNC. If you don't like it, you could always apply for a job in a small company. But until you experience it yourself, you will not be able to judge which is better.
All companies have unique policies and procedures, and there is nothing to understand in the policies and procedures of a company. Once you join, you will understand it.
So, all the best for your future.
Regards,
Anita

Dear Chiranjeevi,
I can tell you from my own experience that a small position in a BIG company is far better than any position in a small company. Salary and appraisal are just a part of the package! The main thing is EXPERIENCE! Whatever you learn in a BIG company, you cannot learn anywhere else. Not even big B-schools can teach you the professionalism and personality that a BIG company can instill in you.
At the end of the day, you end up being more professional, have a better personality, and most importantly, you are accepted by any company just because of the brand name you share (of course, the qualities of the brand are injected in you).
All the best!

Dear Seniors,
Thank you for your valuable suggestions. I will aim for positions in larger companies. Could you please provide me with information about HR documents and processes in those companies? This will enable me to gain more practical knowledge than I currently have and, if possible, implement it in my present company.
Thank you
