Dear HR Professionals,
We are an IT MNC. We do not have any stringent policy over Dress Code, but we soon want to initiate one to maintain Company Decorum. Sending out an email just would not work, as many employees may not take it seriously. We need some valid, strong idea/policy that would help maintain the Dress Code in our Company.
Request you to please share your policies that you follow at your firm for Employee Dress Code.
Best Regards,

Hi Surekha,
Please draft a dress code policy and share it across the organization. Include a few DOs and DON'Ts while drafting the policy. It's important to note that drafting a policy is easy, but adherence is not. Therefore, it should be driven from the top and maintain a report for every process or department to ensure compliance.
Consider conducting random audits or implementing a fine of Rs. 50 per instance for better implementation. These are just suggestions from my end.

Hello Surekha,
I suggest that you draft a Policy Booklet that enlists all the Company Policies along with the newly devised Dress Code. This shall serve two purposes.
1) The inclusion of the dress code in the Company Policy Booklet shall give an impression that the Management is serious about the New Dress Code.
2) The policy booklet also gives the employees a feeling of a disciplined work environment and aids in the non-occurrence of Policy Breach.
I would strongly recommend you devise a Scoring System whereby Maintenance of Decorum, including Dress Code, can be rated by Seniors. This Score shall later be used by the HR Team during appraisals. This can be done while keeping in mind your Employee Strength and Management Flexibility.
This approach has worked for me and for more than a couple of my peers in other organizations. Hope this works for you too!

Apart from what the members suggested, to enforce a dress code, adopt a carrot and stick policy. The stick policy shall include the following:
1) Include it as part of the minor misconduct in the conduct rules of the company, which may be brought to the notice of all the members of the staff.
2) Stipulate a minor penalty of a warning for the first-time breach, a fine of a small amount for the second breach, and a bigger fine for the third time.
