Hi sir
I ll give some inputs which i know and seniors will give you more compared to me....
=>The greatest barrier the students face is the inability to express their ideas.......
=>They mostly lag confidence.... they will always have a second thought in mind whether what they say is right or wrong.
=>Ask them to read journals and magazines of their field...
=>They should be able to tell the concepts and should be able to answer where the concepts they studied can be applied practically.............

Dear Mr. Prasad,

Your research will end up in accumulating more points which you can summarize at the end of your survey.

1) INDIAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM NEED TO MODIFIED/CHANGE.

2) CURRICULUM DESIGNED AND SUBJECTS TAUGHT SHOULD MEET MARKET/RELEVANT INDUSTRY DEMAND.

3) MNC's MUST COME UP WITH THEIR OWN CURRICULUM AND COLLABORATE WITH UNIVERSITIES SEEKING ADMISSIONS.

4) SKILL BASED PROGRAMMES TO BE GIVEN TOP PREFERENCE.

5) VARIOUS COMPETENCIES TO BE TAUGHT BEFORE END OF COURSE

6) STUDENTS MUST BE ALLOWED TO WORK FOR STIPULATED PERIOD OF TIME TO GATHER EXPERIENCE AND THEN PROMOTE TO NEXT SEM OR MODULE

7) SOFT SKILLS MUST BE A PART OF EVERY CURRICULUM.

8) FACULTY MUST BE TRAINED, CERTIFIED AND HOLD MINIMUM EXPERIENCE TO TAKE UP TEACHING PROFESSION.

9) COLLEGE MANAGEMENT MUST NOT COMMERCIALIZE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM, CHARGE MORE AND OFFER LOW QUALITY SERVICES.

10) PARENTS MUST ALLOW THEIR CHILDREN TO TAKEN COURSES AS PER THEIR INTEREST.

11) STUDENTS MUST BE NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE UP COURSES WHICH THEY CAN'T PURSUE DUE TO LACK OF SPECIFIC SKILLS

12) MEDIUM OF COMMUNICATION MUST BE ENGLISH NOT JUST LIMITING TO WRITING.

13) SPECIALIZE CERTIFICATIONS MUST BE GIVEN MORE PREFERENCE TO SUPPORT GRADUATE & POST GRADUATE PROGRAMMES(CURRICULUM MUST BE PRECISE) WITH REGARDS TO EXPERIENCE AND TO PROGRESS TO NEXT LEVEL.

These are only views. Correct if i am wrong.

With profound regards

Dear Ms Dhaarani and Mr. S A Khadir,

You have mentioned very detailed points to clerify the above query.

In addition if we see today , most educational institutes are emerging in the private sector in almost all the cources. Some of them ( not all) have commercialised the education system.

Now students can take admissions very easily in any course........whether MBA or Engineering stream. Some of the students are getting admissions not because of their choice but because of some prestige issues. It shows that they will not take interest in the particular cource which shall effect the education environment adversly for the genuine students.

I have personaly experienced the conceptual skills gap in the candidates. As you might be knowing that for a technical course, most of the questions we ask from the candidates are related to the practical training he /she atteded in the industrial house.

What I found that the students can't give satisfactory answers for the questions. The reason may be that the industrial houses are not have sufficient time to give them the training and relevant projects for work.

Being new to the culture, the students trainees dont force the companiy representative to give them adequate training and guidance. This is very major point for not getting jobs for the students after completing their particular course. So it is the moral and social responsibility of the industrial houses to impart proper and adequate training to the studets ( trainng as part of their curriculam)

Another point as already explained by my friends..........more interaction between Industry and education institutes is to be improved to know the needs of one another.

Moreover the demand and supply gap of manpower is increasing......which further worsening the situation.

Thanks

Dear Mr. Prasad,
You said, unemployment is increasing year by year. It is not the fact. Unskilled, inexperienced workforce is increasing year by year. Plenty of jobs from various domain/industry are available. Only Experienced / Qualified / Skilled / Certified staff is missing.

The Streams which u refer talk about a larger base of unemployed youth.
but delivery is different for both the sets in employment!!
For MBA's it is all about live cases and understanding application of concepts
For Engg students its all about Technical Clarity.
BUT ONLY STRAIN TO ALL THESE YOUTHS IS CLARITY OF THE FACT: CERTIFICATION DISREGARDED THEY ARE FRESHERS IN THE INDUSTRY AND NEED TO START FROM GRASS ROOT LEVEL AND MOVE UP. IT SHOULD NOT BE AN ASSUMPTION THAT THE MBA OR ENGG DEGREE MAKES YOU BETTER. EVERY COMPANY HAS THEIR OWN SPECS FOR THE JOBS, AND INDUCTION IS FIXED!! IT IS POST INDUCTION PERFORMANCE WHICH CAN ENSURE GROWTH. TILL THEN AT EVERY INTERVIEW MBA & ENGINEERS STILL PERFORM SAME AS FRESH GRADUATES.............. COS VOCATIONAL EDUCATION LEAVES A BIG TIME GAP WITHOUT TRAINEESHIP AND ON JOB EXPOSURE.
SO I GUESS RURAL INTERNSHIP FOR MEDICINE DELIVERS WELL!!

Dear Mr.Prasaadu,
Unemployment problem is a universal phenomeno and not limited to one country. No country can boast itself saying there is nil un employment. In your case, you wanted to do research in this area which is wide and a big ocean by itself. Employment is in all sectors. Which sector you want to concentrate (ie.Banking, Engineerring, legal, etc) First decide it and then work towards. Besides, employment is region based also. Which region you are going to focus, is it local or national. There are so many questions to be answered before deciding further. As far the skills concerned, they can be broadly classified (technical or functional skills which they acquire through their studies, work experience, and soft skills or managerial skills which are necessary to survive in this world).
Do a thorough homework and then proceed further.
Employment statistics can be obtained from govt bodies meant for this. This may also help you to some extent.
Best Regards.

Ask the students to get their fundas right and at least do some homework beyond the syllabus.

Thank's Ramesh sir,
How could we overcome the skills gap for students?
could you suggest few good practices for students to expertise in their streams?
which type training sessions are need for them?

Dear Shri Prasadu

I cannot comment on Unemployment issue, but would like to comment on what inputs the Institutions should provide to students to enhance their performance in the screening process of recruitment of Employers. These comments partially address the three questions in your note.

Most of the prospective employers look for candidates sound in academics, aptitude / attitude suitable for the job, clarity in approaches to problem solving and good verbal and written communication skills.

Based on the above hypothesis, one could say that students need the following to enhance their employment opportunities. Institutes need to take steps to cater to these requirements.

-- Strength and clarity in fundamentals and concepts. Institutions need to make the Lecturers put in extra effort to ensure that students understand the fundamentals. For this purpose, small test or quiz may be introduced within the lecture sessions.

-- Written Communication skills - Using simple and short sentences to express the ideas. Training in presis writing helps in developing skills in analysing and expressing. Guest lectures on basics of Report Writing also help.

-- Verbal Communication skills - Exposure to principles such as listening to question / statement fully first before answering, responding to the point and not beating about the bush, saying 'Do not know' instead of bluffing, etc. helps. Guest lectures on this subject may be thought of by the Institutions. Debating competetion may be incorporated as extra curricular activity.

-- Training on Resume preparation

-- Vocational guidance
