what you have cited is also part of employee engagement.The objectives of employee engagement are :

1) Learning through both fun and meaningful activities.

2) Bringing about employee participation in running the organisation.

3) Promote bonding between the employees and the organisation

4) Developing employees' networth in terms of skills and knowledge in the areas of problem solving and strategising.

Some of the activities, apart from what you cited in your post, are :

1)Suggestion scheme

2)Best idea selection in any area like sales/marketing/design/packaging etc.

3)Problem solving games

4) Fun games

5) Picnics

6) Experiential out-door games

7)Conducting music and dance competetions

You can hit as many ideas as possible

Criteria for selecting an enagement activity

1) keep in view the category of employees for whom the activity is meant. For example, the counter staff with normal formal education in a reatil store may be interested in fun games but not in a DE Bono exercises on lateral thinking. He may find it too serious to be involved.

2) keep in view the character of the establishment - whether it is manufacturing or stores aor bank or insurance company etc.

3) Timing of the activity is another key factor. See the social mood of the organisation .In some organisation, staff may be in holiday mood during summer vacations. You may get aluke warm response on such occassions.
