Skill matrix as name suggest is the matrix of skill set required to perform task,why skill matrix? is because it is more practical tool to identify skill/competency gap,to identify training need ,can be used in job enrichment and can be beneficial at a time of Performance Appraisal if used rightly.
simply i will explain it as like in belt manufacturing company if i am to do skill matrix of ope rater what i will do is first analyse the process of belt manufacturing then will try to find the specific skill required to manufacture a good in belt manufacturing, the skills required are attaching,pasting ,buckling etc thus we analyse the skill set of each and every operator against these set and bench marked parameter,if anybody skill found to below bench marked parameter then certainly he need some training
thus we can arrange some training to enhance the skill set(job enrichment) and we can do this exercise two time a year so that second time after training and practical exposure we can again identify the skill gap and employee learning ability which we can consider at a time of appraisal .
