Hi all,

Are there any companies that take shredded papers or Xerox papers printed on both sides? I don't think dumping them in the waste bin is a good idea.

Additional ideas on reusing the same are most welcome. This is a very small initiative that I am looking at to go green.

Regards,
Jhuma

Dear Jhuma,

You can approach some Papermesh Toys manufacturing companies to take the waste shredded paper (cut into small pieces), for which you can also receive payment. Search in your area.

The best way to dispose of used papers is to collect all the papers and bind them together so that they are hard enough to hit your head with. Now, start hitting your head with that bound book. By doing this, you can generate your own ideas instead of relying on others... hehehehehehehe

All paper manufacturers use shredded paper to make pulp. You can find the one nearest to you and ask if they can arrange to pick it up. It depends on volumes naturally.

Your scrap dealer (raddi-wala) will also take it and eventually sell it to the paper mills.

Waste paper (unshredded) is purchased in bulk from waste paper dealers for recycling to make cardboard, etc. If shredded, the paper can be recycled to make handmade paper/craft paper, which is used for invitation cards, file covers, book covers, exercise book covers, etc.

It depends on the volume. You could use good paper and make it into small booklets that can be used as writing material and given during in-house training programs. Create awareness even before it is used so that the volume will decrease. Divide it and distribute it to departments for all petty usage.

All the best and appreciate your initiatives.

Hi,

In Chennai, there is a company called BioTech Enterprises. They are involved in recycling all waste papers from IT companies and star hotels. Employers in Chennai, especially along OMR-Rajiv Gandhi Salai (IT highway), can contact the number provided below for full details. At the moment, I do not have their website information.

Contact Person: Santhanam (BioTech Enterprises) - 9884334616.

Thank you,

Dear Jhuma,

Paper is made from wood, and wood is becoming scarce. Therefore, the less paper we use, the better. We tend to print everything we want to read. The first step should be to educate ourselves to read the soft copy. However, there are still instances where printing is necessary.

Usually, these printed documents outlive their usefulness over time and become surplus or redundant. Most often, all our documents are printed on one side, leaving 100% of the surface still usable. To make the most of the paper, consider using the reverse side for drafting. Many of us scribble a few words, then discard the paper in the dustbin once done. Instead of wastage, tear the sheets in two and distribute them to office personnel for drafting.

Ensure that the half sheets are not crumpled and thrown away. Collect them and have them shredded. The resulting shredded confetti can serve as excellent packing material for crockery and glassware. If you cannot find individuals within your organization who are moving to outstations, you may dispose of the shredded paper by offering it to packers and movers.
