Dear Mathur,

Do you know the real reason for celebrating the Ganesh Festival?

The actual reason for the celebration is to keep our environment and water sources in good condition. Our water ponds in the villages are getting spoiled over time. When sunlight reaches the clay at the bottom of the water in the pond, the clay gets activated and starts emitting infrared rays. After the rainy season, the rainwater stored in the ponds is not fit for consumption. In the olden days, to make it potable, they started adding clay in the form of Ganesh Visarjan, which helped filter the water with infrared rays, purifying the pond water. You can easily notice that stored water typically develops fungus, whereas pond water does not. This is due to the activation of infrared rays in the water when sunlight interacts with the clay at the bottom.

You may have noticed that food prepared in pots stays fresh, while food prepared in metal vessels quickly perishes. The reason for this is that pots emit infrared rays when they reach boiling temperature.

Everything our ancestors did had a scientific reason behind it. However, nowadays, we have spoiled the environment in the name of color, technology, fashion, development, innovation, improvement, etc. We are now struggling to break free from these constraints and are trying to innovate further in the name of eco-friendliness and environmental friendliness.

Thank you.

From India, Kumbakonam
