Hi Friends,
We have received PF slips and we note that many of the employees' names are misspelled. Will this affect the employees in the future, or as long as the PF number is correct, they need not worry.

Dear Giri,
We faced a similar problem last year when many of our employees complained about incorrect names on their P.F payslips. To resolve the issue, we brought it to the attention of the P.F officials. Following their directive, we provided an official letter for the correction of names, and as a result, we did not see any mistakes on the latest payslips.
My advice is to follow the same procedure. I suggest meeting with the P.F official responsible for your company's P.F matters and officially informing them through a letter.
Wishing you all the best.

Thank you for the reply, Telikepalli.
We had informed the PF office last year, and we found a few errors that were still not rectified. We will address this again this year. However, for my understanding, I would like to know if errors or spelling mistakes in the name will affect the employees in the future when transferring or withdrawing the amount.

I know it's very late to post, but spelling mistakes in names are common. The important thing is the PF account number in the PF department. PF is accumulated and settled based on the account number and the name given in Form 5 or Form 9 initially.
Hi Giri,
You need to provide an official letter listing the names of the employees with the correct spelling for correction. Please mention that the same names have been misspelled as "...." in the PF slips received for the year.
Submit the letter in two copies; one for acknowledgment from the PF office so that it can be retained in your company records. This will prevent any issues during an employee's departure, ensuring a smooth process for PF transfer or withdrawal.
Regards,
Smita

Dear Giri,
According to my experience, please ensure to write the correct name or verify the name of an employee in Form no. 6/6a (return) which is submitted annually. Without changes in this form, the PF office will not process anything in the PF slip.

Hi Giri,
In the same case, if you want to correct the name wrongly spelled by the RPFC, then you need to fill out Form 2 for these employees along with a covering letter. Mention your query in detail in the letter and request the necessary correction in RPFC records for these employees.
Thanks & Regards,
Sunil Sharma

Hi Giri,
Please follow as mentioned by Smita. The only correction is that the request should come from the employee, and the error notice should be duly attested by the employer.
PF slips are intended for employees, and any discrepancies should be notified by the employee for necessary corrections within six months from the date of issue.

Hi All,
The errors must be corrected by taking up the matter with the PF department in the appropriate form. This is necessary as banks, harassed by frauds, are becoming increasingly stringent in dealing with errors. So, to avoid delays at a later stage, preemptive action to correct any anomalies would be a good idea.

Aye.

Dear Mr. Giri,
In such cases, you need to get a copy of any identity card issued by the government along with a letter from the employee to the employer mentioning the mistake in the name and requesting the correction in the PF department. The employer, along with the employee's letter and the identity card copy, should submit the documents to the PF commissioners/regional commissioners/assistant commissioner (whichever is the higher authority in the specific location) and obtain an acknowledgement on the copy.
Furthermore, when sending the annual returns, ensure that all names are correctly spelled in the returns as the slips are generated based on the returns.

Dear Friend,
As suggested by many friends above, please take steps to correct errors in the spelling of names. If you do not address incorrect names now, they may not pay any heed to your future attempts at corrections. Not only is the PF account number important, but names are also crucial. Therefore, please rectify the errors with the concerned EPFO office as recommended earlier.
