In order to determine the training and development requirements of your organization, you need to follow these steps:

Method No. 1

Develop a questionnaire to identify the department's overall training requirements. Divide the questionnaire into three areas:

- Academic requirements of the department,
- Technical training requirements of the department,
- Soft skills training requirements of the department.

This should be done at a managerial level. Additionally, you can conduct the same process at an individual level within the department to identify specific training needs. Apply the same criteria of academic, technical, and soft skills requirements at an individual level.

Method No. 2

Review employees' job descriptions and assess the competencies required for each role. Compare these with the competencies possessed by the employees and conduct a gap analysis, known as competence mapping. This detailed method will provide insights to address training and development needs effectively.

As you are new to training and development, start with the first method, which is more general - the training and development questionnaire. Over time, gradually incorporate the second method.

If you require assistance in developing questionnaires for your organization's training and development project, feel free to reach out to me.

To decide on what trainings need to be conducted, you need to identify the areas where employees are falling short. For example, their communication skills may not meet the required standard, or their grooming standards may not align with company norms, client interaction, etc. Considering that your organization is a construction company, focusing on areas such as Interpersonal Skills, Motivation, and Team Building may be necessary.

I believe that distributing a small questionnaire for employees to fill out could assist you in making an informed decision.

Hope this guidance proves useful to you.

Hi Kartik, well as your company is in construction, you could provide training on:

- Safety and occupational hazards
- First aid for workers, site officers, and supervisors

For the corporate office, you might consider offering training on personality development. For the sales staff, marketing training could be provided to help them improve their sales. Additionally, vendor management training for HR and Marketing could be beneficial.

These ideas are just off the top of my head. You will definitely come up with more as you assess what the employees, clients, and management/owner of the company want. This gap can be filled by training.

All the best.
