I need to know what all HR-related laws are applicable to a non-manufacturing company (i.e., a company is in the trading business only). If any standard book, manual, or website can be suggested covering basics of applicable laws.

If you indicate number of employees it is easy to give the list of laws applicable. I presume HR laws means laws applicable under statutory acts. BHAVAN

Hi Bhanu,
The statutes applicable for a firm with 20 or more employees will be PF & ESI. However, the other acts, namely the Minimum Wages Act, National and Festival Holidays, are at the discretion of the management.

Labour law is vast. Try to read as many Acts as possible. However, for complicated situations, it is advisable to hire a lawyer. You can also explore books by H L Kumar on labour laws. His books are very helpful for people with a non-legal background as they are easy to understand.
