Understanding Ego: Unveiling Self-awareness and Personal Growth - CiteHR

What Is Ego Really?

Most people think of the word Ego and assume it means you're "arrogant" or you believe you are "better than others." Is that truly the definition of Ego? Is that the only example of Ego?

Absolutely not. Ego is an invisible shield planted around yourself to protect you from the outside world. Ego manifests in various ways.

Ego is being "shy" and avoiding interactions with people. Ego is the fear of others' opinions about you. Ego is self-critical and reluctant to accept compliments. Ego is a lack of trust in people due to past betrayals. Ego is residing within a comfort zone due to the fear of failure. Ego is believing that everything you do is flawless or striving for perfection. Ego is claiming credit that isn't rightfully yours or disliking when others receive credit. Ego is abandoning the persistence instilled in you. Ego is having a closed mind. Ego is hindering your own growth and learning due to the fear of associated responsibilities. Ego is refusing to forgive because you feel justified in your anger. Ego opts to take offense at others' words or actions. Ego is self-righteous and overly critical. Ego is false humility. Ego is being oppressed and stuck in the past. Ego is the need to control everything. Ego is believing that no one can outperform you. Ego is an inability to admit needing assistance. The Ego feels compelled to "keep up with the Joneses." Ego strives to maintain a facade of perfection even when it's not the reality. Ego plays the victim. Ego is pride.

These are merely a few examples of Ego. We all tend to wear our Ego comfortably. The key is to consciously choose daily to remove this invisible shield and embrace the true self that God intended us to be. By relinquishing complete control to God and not attempting to navigate life alone, our Ego will be left behind at the threshold of our existence.

In short, Ego is Edging God Out.
