Dear Anuj,
Is Mgt . planning to minimize cost by working 5 days ?
Is it aslo planned sat/sun off ?
Pl. respond to these issues for better solutions.
Mr. Parthsarthi has given a staggered off / rotational off system ( very apt system) which has been practiced by major mfg. and continuous process organisations.
Best wishes.

Hi,
May I ask what the current shift system is? How many people are working in each shift/
Which Industry are you working in? Manufacturing or sevices? (remember both industries have shifts)
If its manufacturing:
Are all machinery being utilized? or any left unused?
Are you working for an OEM? (original eqpmt manufacturing?)
Whats the schedule for the orders - do you have annual bulk standardized production? or seasonal and based on client demand and new accounts?
Whats the intention behind reducing the working days?you
if service industry -
what kind of service? whats the SLA? let us know... will help
GIVE INFORMATION TO RECEIVE THE RIGHT INFO!
Partho - thanks a lot. that helped me :-)

Hi Anuj,
If you are intending to work five days instead of six days, the provisions of the law allows you to work upto 9 working hours a day, then you could work 9 +1 hour off (10 hours) a day. You could cover upto 45 hours a week. And if you could cut short the lunch hour to 30 minutes, (however declare as 12.30 to 2.00 is a flexible lunch break), without specifying the break time. You could save another 30 minutes. Thus you could work 9.30 x 5 = 47.50 hours a week, which is almost 48 hours a week.
You could manage your production / manufacturing activities with this. In case if it is a software industry, where is the question of time bound working? You guys will any way work till you doze off. :)
