Dear All,
How do you calculate salary for a person who has joined duty on the 18th of Feb 09. We have paid him for 11 days that he has attended office (18-28th Feb).
Normally is salary paid to the employee on the no. of days he has attended office or we deduct the 18 days sal from his net pay and pay him the balance.
for ex:
Net Salary Rs. 8000
pay for 11 days = 8000/30*11= 2933.33/- or
Net salary Rs. 8000
=8000/30*17=4533.33-8000= 3466/-
Do we pay him 2933 for 11 days that he has worked or Rs. 3466 after deducting 17 days pay.
Which calculation is normally practiced? We are a small company and this doubt has arised.
Pls explain.
Thanks

Dear Maxne,
To calculate salary for a person who has joined duty on the 18th of Feb 09.
You have to pay him for 11 days that he has attended office (18-28th Feb).
Salary is paid to the employee on the no. of days he has attended office.
for ex:
Net Salary Rs. 8000
pay for 11 days = 8000/28*11= 3142.85/- Correct Practice
pay for 11 days = 8000/30*11= 2933.33/- wrong practice.
Net salary Rs. 8000
=8000/30*17=4533.33-8000= 3466/- wrong practice.

Dear Maxne
here you give 11days salary based on 28days on february, then why should you caliculated on 30days in that formule.here also you can caliculated on 28days only
salary=8000*11/28=3143
salary=8000*17/28=4857, 8000-4857=3143
this is the correct way to caliculate the salary

Hey Thanks guys this is wonderful... and i'm clear now... one more thing we normally practice to pay.. sal for 30 days irrespective even it is 30, 28 or 31 days is this the right way to follow.
Lets say that for he month of Feb we must calculate for 28 days and for march it will be 31 days is it..

Dear Maxne
The right practice is you have to consider the Gross amount and not the net payment.. Net payment may differ.
For Example: Gross = 8000
Then 8000/28*11(18 - 28)= 3143,then dedn like pf,esi & other dedn if any
Then net pay have to paid
For Salary total no of days has to be consider as 31,30,28 as applicable.

Dear Maxne,
You are calculating like this
1) Salary 8000, Present Days=31, Calender days=30
then net salary = salary/calender days*present days
= 8000/30*31=8266/-
2) Salary 8000, Present Days=30, Calender days=30
then net salary = salary/calender days*present days
= 8000/30*30=8000/-
3) Salary 8000, Present Days=28, Calender days=30
then net salary = salary/calender days*present days
= 8000/30*28=7466/-
see employee is present for whole month in feb, march and april but he is getting less salary in Feb, correct in April and more in March to avoid this always calculate like this
1) Salary 8000, Present Days=31, Calender days=31 (March)
then net salary = salary/calender days*present days
= 8000/31*31=8000/-
2) Salary 8000, Present Days=30, Calender days=30 (April)
then net salary = salary/calender days*present days
= 8000/30*30=8000/-
3) Salary 8000, Present Days=28, Calender days=28 (Feb)
then net salary = salary/calender days*present days

Hi, I somewhere agree with Khusro You have to calculate on Gross & have to take 30 as a base days. Regards, Devesh

Dear devesh For salary calculation we have to consider the number of days in a month and not 30 days for all months. Ex: 30 as 30, 28 as 28, 31 as 31 Regards venkatesh 9841160500
