Dear All,
Ours is a Garment Manufacturing unit, which has a Ground Floor, First Floor and a Second Floor. In the Second Floor, we have a dormitory along with a mess for Lady labours. Under Factories Act, is it allowed to have a dormitory at the top of factory premises? Please clarify this.

Dear Anand,
IF you had made a posting about "Requirement of Placement agencies", you would have got hundreds of replies by now, but unfortunately genuine enquiries like this do not get replies.
Well the answer to your question lies mainly in the processes that you employ, your equipment & some othe factors which would need a detailed discussion.
You can contact me at
for further discussion. Although this is one of my expertise areas, I will not charge for sharing knowledge.
Cheers

Dear Anand,
It would be advisable if you consult the respective Factories Rules of the concerned state, which give detailed information, terms, and conditions of the applicability of the Factories Act in that state. In your case, it would be the Tamil Nadu Factories Rules 1950.
Please see if there is any provision contrary to what you intend to do. In my humble opinion, it can be allowed if proper safety and safeguards for the occupants are ensured. It can function as a Guesthouse/temporary accommodation rather than a permanent place of residence for employees.
Warm regards.

Dear Mr. Anand,
Please refer to the below Tamil Nadu Statutes Governing Factory Management under the Factories Act. Therefore, it does say that any manufacturing process which has 10 or more workers must provide sufficient latrine and urinal accommodations of prescribed types.
