Dear Durga,
Next to appraisals;
1. Increment
2. Promotions, Transfers, Job Rotation & Termination
3. Annual Performance Pay
But this is generic one and varies from cmpny to cmpny.
Our practice,
- Increement based on the rating (5 point scale) given by the concern HODs.
- Promotions based on the proposals given by the concern HODs.
- Annual performance pay based on the past two years ratings.

i agree with chum sir, after the p.a. we have a discussion with the person who is appraised n who has apprasied, discussin the points on low ratin, reasons for it, n corrective measures.. afterthat a check list is prepared where in the superior reglarly notes the progress on low scored areas.. thenw e have the standard one the promotions n salary hikes.. or job rotation/ enrichments etc...

Halo Nadini,
JD is given during the initial period, commencement of ur job/ gives a generic discription abt the portfolio.
KRA is bit specific in nature and mainly it talks abt the result. KRA is time bounded, measurable and keeps check of ur task. KRA has periodical revisions - every year. KRA is also taken in account during appraisals.
