Dear All,
I have joined as HR Manager in one manufacturing company recently. There is no system in anything. Employees come habitually late. Most of them come office regularly one hour late also. In security gate no systematic procedures. I have introduced new SOPs in Time Office, Security Gate, Relieving formalitites, Dress code and appointment.
Now, all of the employees are seeing me as enemy. Nobody talk me with friendly. M.D. only appreciate me. But, he will come to factory weekly twice. I felt H.R. Manager designation is very tough job. When I worked as Admin Asst. I was mingled with all employees in workplace. But, I feel lonliness. Now, I planned to quit the job after bring 100% systems in this company.
If you have same experience, you can share here.
Best Regards,
Srini

Dear Srini,
I really empathize with you.
It must be very very difficult. Hang on!
But listen there are some laws in life - like gravity : you can't jump from a height and then complain saying that "I'm falling"!
Similarly : you can't 'crack the whip' and then feel sad that you are alone!
Change management is a science and a skill. One that requires a lot of patience, understanding and empathy.
You're not the boss. The operations head is the boss. You must be able to provide him/her with the process and the info.....fundamentally that should be the scope of your work..
hope you understand.......hang in there and don't let them get to you!!
regards
Joseph

Dear Srini,
"Discipline comes by two ways, one by self respect/ self interest and the other by severe punishment / by force" u cannot change people's mindset by over nyt! you have to change ur thinking first, juz try the following steps.
- create a system
- to start with, approach people in a smoother way.
- Give 3 chances, if u find no change.
- use ur hard hand, punish people, such tat thy sudn't repeat it.
- use the 3rd point for certain period / till it becomes the culture.
Srini, this is HR job n we are managing the so called valuable resource HUMAN, which has 6 sences, we have to be ready to confront any crisis. And hey, if not this ur cup of tea, juz push off.:icon1:

Dear Srinivasan
HR is not sitting only there to calculate monthly wages. You are an HR Manager. Be proud to be holding this position. But responsibilities of HR is least understood by other employees of the company. They may not understand too.
Feel happy for the changes you have made. Take necessary actions on indiscipline also. Reward the employees for Achievement. Give gifts once or twice a year from the company profit fund to employees. They should feel that you are the key person. But never ever loose your dignity. Respect all the employees of higher or lower cadre. But do not try to be friend of common employee. Because you are an HR Manager.Respect will come to you automatically. Do not change your way. But wait for the time.:)
Good Luck

Hi,
Don't give up. I am agree with my other HR friends that we are handling the valuable resource - HUMAN, we can't change their mindset overnight.
Just wait and watch, if you get a chance to talk to them individually make them understand the positive side of the systems which you have implemented. Try to talk to them informally rather than formally. Catch your colleagues somewhere around cafeteria, lunch room etc... and then show them the correct & positive picture of the systems. Its tough but not impossible.
Keep rocking and All the best !

Dear Aarti,
Gud tat u r accepted by ur colleauges, solution to ur case is training programs. Yes, to start with, do team wrk and team building programs, and in this, u have to bring more creative physical games. This vl make them to feel tat thy r in team and act professional. U have to inject the mgmt concepts in a slower phase / one by one. Hope this vl give u good result. If needed, I can help u out in training materials. "Smarter u plan faster u execute".....Keep rockin......:icon1:
