Hi Everyone, I really need help and guidance from you and all the experienced people out there. I am stuck in my thoughts and feeling depressed.

I started my job at the age of 18 as a Receptionist in an eye hospital. With my job, I completed my bachelor's in commerce and joined the same hospital as an accountant but my work is completely different as an accountant. My work profile includes HR operations, finance operations, Administration, and accounting too. I have done a master's in commerce also with my job.

Total 3 years of experience as a Receptionist and 6 years of experience as an accountant ( actually different work as mentioned above). Now I am looking for a new job for the last 1.5 years but have not gotten opportunities and interview calls In spite of applying continuously.

My mixed experience is the reason I guess. I am very good at Numbers and hr and administration too and not able to decide what I actually like. Please suggest to me which field I should choose further. Also what designation should I mention in C.V. I am the only person here handling all duties related to hr, finance, administration, and accounts for more than 6 years?

Please help me. Thank you!

Dear member,

From your post, it emerges that you had to start your career at quite an early stage. However, defying the odds, you have pursued your education. Pursuing an education while putting up with the vagaries of the job is no easy task, however, you have done it. You did not just contend with the graduation but you have completed post-graduation also. This shows you have a very strong determination. You are a growth-oriented person. Well done! Keep it up!

Though you have been applying for the jobs, you are not getting even interview calls. You have correctly identified the reason for it which is the variedness of your experience.

Now you have three options to pursue your career further. It is HR or Accounts or Administration. However, amongst the three, I feel that the middle one i.e. Accounts could be the right one. This is because you openly say that you are good at numbers. However, please note, being good in numbers is different from being good at maintaining books of accounts.

If you decide to pursue your career, in the field of administration, then you may do a diploma in hospital administration. That is the logical choice to back up your career for the administration stream.

However, before taking a call on your career development, I recommend you do "SWOT Analysis" of your career. Click on the hyperlink to read my past post on this concept. An accurate understanding of one's strengths and weaknesses helps in developing one's self-awareness. When people don't have self-awareness, they start blaming external factors for their inability to grow. However, little do they understand that the limiting factors are within them and not outside. The people who don't have self-awareness get into one more trap. As they accumulate experience, they feel that what they write, what they talk or what they advise is right.

In addition to academics, you need to build skills that support career development. A few important skills are communication skills, presentation skills, business writing skills, interpersonal skills and so on. Watch the videos on YouTube or read the material. However, feedback on these skills is also important. While writing this, I do not mean to say that your communication skills are poor. Though not from HR or even a Manager the quality of your post is much better. Nevertheless, there is always a scope for continuous improvement. Hence this suggestion.

The second sentence of your post reads "I am stuck in my thoughts and feeling depressed". This is because hitherto you relied on yourself for personal development and it was sufficient. However, hereafter you need career guidance. Pursuing academic courses does not require guidance but the case of career development is different. I wish you had taken career guidance earlier or you had approached this forum earlier.

Lastly, remove the word "depression" from your dictionary. Since you could not succeed in getting a better job, you feel that you are clueless. However, this cluelessness is a part and parcel of life. The business owners, when unable to grow their business also become clueless. After 25-30 years, you could become clueless about how to develop your child's career. Therefore, learn to put up with the uninformed conditions of life or the inability to infer what is occurring.

Hi,

It is very common in small/mid Organizations that the roles and responsibilities will not be confined to one particular arena and those Organization's Management will always aim at maximum utilization of manpower with limited resources. Being able to perform multiple tasks at work is believed to be a strength. But as a idiom says "A Jack of all trades is a master of none" when you start growing up in terms of hierarchy you need to project and focus on one particular specialization area where you believe you can excel.

As you possess Master of Commerce Degree and as you claim you are good in numbers, if you are very much interested in Accounts then project your Accounts related qualification, knowledge, accomplishments, related software known like Tally / Payroll software etc in your Resume

Alternatively if you are interested to pursue your career in HR then you need to project HR related tasks like volume of recruitment handled / statutory compliance handled /your employee relation/ PR skills etc in your Resume. Also you should do some HR related courses either Diploma/Degree for future career betterment.

So please avoid projecting all mix of different skill sets which are not relevant for one particular specialization area. Importantly please don't give up keep moving forward.

To add to the notable solutions given above, I would like you to continue your learning, make it a lifelong process. Having secured a PG degree in Commerce, you should continue your education process to understand the most recent developments in your area of competence, the accounts and finance matters. Now there is so much available on the net, you will never be bored.
Your effort to move ahead in career has not fructified, understand that the country has gone through the worst economic crisis in the past two years and there have been job losses in all sectors. Now that things are improving, you have every reason to feel optimistic.
Your profile would impress any recruiter, tireless effort to move ahead in life would impress. This is one quality that counts a lot once there is a proper job opening.
In your CV you need to highlight the aspects suiting the Job Specifications you choose to apply for. Since you are designated as Accountant, a jump to HR or Administration would put only at the lowest level whereas your experience of 6 years in A/cs would render you eligible for middle-level posts in medium-scale organisations.

I have done master in commerce also with my job and currently enrolled for Post graduation diploma in management from hybrid mode learning.

Total 9.5 years of experience in the same organization. 3 years as a Receptionist and 6.5 years as an Accountant and HR/Admin ( Actually mixed work as mentioned above). I am looking for a new job from the last 1.5 years but not getting opportunities and interview calls In spite of applying continuously.

Your post was replied to by three senior members. On receipt of their replies, you have raised three more posts of which the first two are identical and the third one is identical to the original post. What is the logic of asking the same thing again? Secondly, none of the posts was characterised by explicit acknowledgement. What is the logic of not showing basic courtesy?

Before career guidance, it appears you need guidance on business etiquette. I recommend you give priority to learning business etiquette as this could be the reason for getting stuck in your career!

Dear Member,

Its good you have started your carrier in early stage and now you have a good qualification and experience in corporate sector.

So as per my view you must me move in account field , have huge demand of experience professional in all industries ,and corporates.

and one more thing in your profile please show Admin executive or Front desk executive ( on reception post ) and as accountant please mention ( Senior Associate account & administration ).

But choose only account jobs in further.

As you mentioned your self two contrast jobs you are in conflict. HR is a socialized or out going kind of job where as accountant job is an introvert focused little or no much of communication is not required. since you have done two jobs and now doing all managerial roles you would be an ambivert, you would mention you are a generalist and would be eligible for General Manager.
while doing these two jobs which one gave you intangible (Beyond salary) satisfaction like not felt stress, gave you energy while performing your work, feeling like missing a department or colleague etc..... would be your bread butter jam for coming days.
requires little more elaboration from you to analyze your case to guide you that you fit in which job, because HR job means there are 6 areas of work and accountant means different areas like internal external, audits, etc...
otherwise wisely you could mention A generalist with fair exposure in Hr and Finance.
If really ne needs to know there is scientific evidence from Psychometric testing to predict your career anchors, could what's App or contact on below mentioned mobile.
