Hello Prem,
First begin to read newpapers like Economic Times for some time so that you get a feel of the market.
Once you begin to get some knowledge as well as the confidence, you can then approach brokers or one of the many Portals to begin to actually invest. If you begin to invest just by going by someone else's advice, don't blame them when things go wrong--since ups & downs are normal for the stock-market.

Hi,
Those who are interested in learning about stock markets (or any other investments) try investopedia.com. You have comprehensive introduction/tutorial to various investments in this site. And read books like Intelligent investor, Warren Buffet Way, and Value Investing and such.
Fundamentally know the difference between trading and investing. Many people lost their shirt thinking that trading is a quick way to make big money.
Above all remember: "In the stock market Bulls make money, Bears make money and Pigs get slaughtered" - Gecko from the movie Wall Street.
All the best.
Thanks,
Murali

If you spend some time daily and search through the internet, you will surly find lot of information and you will get to know how to start trading in share market. But you should put in that much time and effort in it, you have to cross through lot of junk information before you can reach what you want. Please visit learnandinvestdotcom. You will find a lot of links which leads to the information you want. If time is at a premium for you to do that, You have to undergo practical training in share trading if somebody offers one. Hope this helped.
