Hello sir,iam a pmir student. I want to know about trade union . How it was formed . Who will be the members of trade union(political aid or within their organisation).in some companies their is no trade unions ,so how can they solve their problems. And my another question is what is \"voluntary arbitration\".

In India, the Parliament has passed a law called the Indian Trade Unions Act 1926 which deals with the formation of trade unions. Since you are a student of PMIR, I advsie you to go throug the provisons of the Act from the poit of view of learning. However, briefly stating a tarde union is a body formed by workmen to regulate realtions between employers and workmeor between workmen and workmen. Such trade union shall be registered under the Trade Unions Act and obtain of a certificate of registration.
Voluntary arbitration is provided for under Sec.10-A of the Industrial Disputes Act 1947. When there exists an industrial dispute between the employer and the workmen/union, it is first raised before the Concilaition officer who brings tboth the parties to settle the dispute. If the dispute is not settled, then two options kie before the parties 1) one is to allow the dispute to be referred to a Lab.Court/Industrail Tribunal to adjudicate on it or 2) both parties can agree to volutarily refer the dispute to arbitration by entering into agreement to that effect where up on the Arbitrators will investiage the dispute and submit their decisioncalled award to the Government. I suggest you to go though important l Labour Acts since their knowledge is necessary for IR point of view.
