As HR professional, you need to deal with people-people with emotions and asirations,sentiments and feellings and you are expected to meet them, to fulfil them and to address them and redress them.therefore you are expected to possess the follwing basic skills.
1) Communication skills - you should be able to communicate to the employee the information, policies and practices so that there will not be any misunderstanding of them.Thsi helps reduce conflicts latter.
2) Analytical skills - You cannot mecahnical in dealing with issues.You need to analyse the causes so that you can apply correct remedies.
3) Listening skills - you need to be patient and lisiten to the employees and shall be able to relate to them for sound indutrial relations.
4) Emotional intelligence - this is the ability to empathyse with the employees and understand their emotional being so as to make them feel that the HR shares and cares for them.
These are important skills and it is nice that you have shown interest, while being a student, to understand teh practical side of HR.keep this zeal for learning alive.
