2day i have appeared for 1 campus interview i crack the aptitude test & went in next round which was pi+ti after usual question like intro,family info & also he ask m i vegetarian so i said yes so he further ask u will need to roam around the world so need to eat non-veg so will u? i said no so can this be point for rejection? & can it be my limitation if i m working in any MNC pls guide what should have be my answer

Dear Aditi,
I and my friends have been living in the UK for over 40 years and we are strict vegetarians. Our children are also vegetarians. Being a vegetarian has never been a handicap for us. I do not know why he asked that question.

Thanks for your reply I also feel same but i wanted to ask in interview point of view many people yes our approach should be always like YES & many friends said u should have said at least yes further they r not going to see u so what do u think about it what should have been my answer if i face same question in future

Asking diet habits to a candidate in job interview is quite strange. How can it be a limiting factor in job performance?
Nothing wrong per se to be a vegetarian. Considering Indian's habits, even KFC launched veg section in their outlets.
Coming back to the question of taking non-veg food while roaming around world, instead of saying directly "no", you could have given little diplomatic reply like "I know couple of persons within our network who are vegetarians and still living abroad for the decades together. So there was ways to strike a balance between my diet habits and world tours."
Yes, vegetarianism poses challenges at times. I have personal experience in my tour to abroad. Yet it cannot be a sole criteria for one's profession.
Anyway, that was little unprofessional question also. Just because it was MNC, do not think that there are no unprofessional people there. Unprofessional people are anywhere and everywhere.
If person none less than Oprah Winfray can become victim of racism, who we the ordinary mortals are? Discrimination can confront you in any form.
Worse still, recently stones were thrown at Italian minister. Just couple of weeks ago she was compared with orangutan!
So do not worry. These things are common. Remember person none less than Dhirubhai Ambani. He was in Africa and he had travelled extensively and yet remained vegetarian. Take inspiration from him and move on.
Nevertheless, one thing is sure. This MNC has not trained its staffs on employee diversity.

After going through all the responses and query by Aditi, first I would like to say that she as well as the all candidate if found with the same kind of situation, must not feel like they can be rejected because being veg-non-vegetarian or vegetarian. There can be more reasons of rejection and selection which plays an important role in this process but yes this can be one of the reasons too.
Second, if interviewer rejected any candidate because she/he is a vegetarian, will not be acceptable and a very unprofessional act.
Third, these kind of questions generally asked by the interviewer /employer from retail/FMCG sectors, so nothing is strange in this. I also have experienced this few years back actually. By asking this interviewer actually wanna know about decision skills of a candidate. What one will do in a different situation or which is not suitable and demands for something which is not acceptable to him/her." Its life and there are many stages where we have to perform what we have never thought of or liked to do, is a fact"
Moreover, questions for judging decision skills of a candidate varies with work functions/ categories but this is one of very common question which can be asked to any candidate to know his/her attitude, approach towards life and will he/she be able to accept the TIME conditions or not and many more.
Perhaps, few people wont accept or understand it but it is a truth and being asked by interviewers but Discrimination certainly is not acceptable. About MNC's you must not be worry about anything bcz there is a big difference between interview questions and to live (Work) a corporate professional life in practical. You are totally free what to eat or not while working.
@To All: As she was assuming what can be the reasons of her rejection (if rejected) which is obvious for the newbees, I suggest to all the candidates for not to take such worries and be confident and wise with your answers as this is the really important stage for you.
@Aditi Lastly, as you got selected and offered a good package initially, this certainly be helpful in searching a job but there is something which I would like to highlight you by referring the same question asked by INTERVIEWER.
You are a girl and your parent's concern in this regard is understandable and acceptable but what will you do if you got a very good opportunity to work outside your city/country and make you feel like this can be the golden one for your career and professional life. At this early stage you cant go out and your parents are not allowing you but in future, would you like to go and work outside your town?

Dear Anil Arora Sir Thanks alot For your guidance u must be aware of the kind of news & all in delhi so my parents are worried & my personal opinion is i want to go coz looking at market situation its difficult to get here but one more question come in my mind is that this was through campus but i have not tried anywhere yet so will it be hurry to take this joining & more over date of joining is 9th sep 13 & they told to send tickets till tomorrow so i dont have any time to take decision i m very confuse i dont want to go against my parents wish but same time i m very serious about my career & this opportunity but thanks alot for your guidance
