CSEs training programmes on Urban Rainwater Harvesting, September 24-27, 2007
(Exclusively for students)
This course is open to any student who wants to know
about urban water management the theory, practice
and policy. The course allows you to soak up
knowledge, acquire holistic perspectives and try your
hand in planning for small water harvesting systems in
your house, college or colony. It prods you to think out
of the box, think different and think forward on how we
can manage the earths water endowment.
COURSE MODULES
a) Class-room sessions
Overview Water yesterday, today and tomorrow
Traditional water management systems across the world
Water management in India today--Can we find solutions to a water stressed world?
Water science - basics
Geology, geography, hydrogeology, meteorology, hydraulics, Water quality treatment
technologies
Rainwater harvesting systems
Principles, planning and designing water harvesting systems
Constructing rainwater harvesting systems in urban areas
Costing, maintenance and monitoring, Maintaining water quality
Urban water management
Planning for water supply considerations
Waste water management current scenario and alternatives, Water quality monitoring
Groundwater
Types of aquifers, Nature of groundwater, How groundwater occurs,
Assessment of groundwater, Monitoring groundwater quality and quantity
Water policy
Water policy and legislation, Building up data on water resources
anage the earths water endowment.
b) Practical sessions: All sessions followed by innovative practical assignments &
discussion
c) Field visits: Traditional water harvesting structures, their state of negligence &
relevance in todays context and Model RWH project sites designed by CSE
d) Film Shows: Traditional water harvesting system of India & urban RWH explaining
finer components
e) Workshops: On planning, design and project proposal
