Hello Everyone,

Iam Shazia. I work for IDBI BANK. Last July 2011 i had applied for job in Bank of India. There was no vacancy at that time. Now they have the vacancy and i attended my interview and by god's grace i got shortlisted. Iam suppose to collect offer letter shortly.. they are asking me to join from April 1st 2012.

My query is : My marriage is fixed on May 6th 2012, for which i wl be in need of atleast 10 to 15 days leave. If i resign my current job and join the new company from April 1st, will they able to grant me a vacation leave of 10-15days just after 1 month of employment....??

I dont want to put across this leave issue in front of HR when iam collecting offer letter, iam scared that they might hire some other candidate... i dont want to loose this opportunity....

Plz suggest me, will it be a wise decision to discuss this issue with HR while collecting offer letter ? / shall i keep quiet and talk to them only in the May 1st week...

Eagerly waiting for ur comments...

Thanks & Regards,

Shazia

Dear Shazia,
In the first month of joining the leaves may not be granted for new joinee . it is better you inform before so that they will understand and may grant leave as per your requirement u grabbed the opportunity with confidence hope u can do this.
All the best .
Happy married life.

Dear Ms. Shazia,

The worst part of human communication is that, "they believe as if things are happening as assumed". Humans are habitual of

1) keep on thinking without taking appropriate LOGICAL ACTION

2) Taking actions without applying LOGICA.

It is your PRIME responsibility to communicate to HR about your marriage as scheduled before collecting your Appointment letter/order. I am sure HR will consider your request. If the organisation cannot consider HUMAN VALUES, why do we need to work for any employer.

Don't make your life MATERIALISTIC and COMPLICATED by just assuming things. Believe in POSITIVE COMMUNICATION & THINKING.

If you are really a CREATIVE PERSONALITY, do invite your future employer, HR and other team members. Demonstrate your INTERPERSONAL SKILLS and prove that, you are good PR. If you don't have then, you must learn to "HOW TO BUILD PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIP @ WORKPLACE" without making other feel that you are trying to get your things by applying tactics.

With profound regards

Hi shazia

You have two options;

1) You can meet the HR head of the Bank of India, if you are at Mumbai and tell them about your marriage and either seek extension of your joining date which they would definitely consider being public sector undertaking or request leave for marriage after joining.

.

2) If you are not at Mumbai and if you have already been alootted to some branch or office, you can meet the HR at the Regional Office under whose control the barnch or office falls and inform them that you would like to join the bank and since the marriage was fixed prior to Bank's offer, you need 15 days leave for purpose. Though you are not eligibel for leave , they will grant you leave on loss of pay.

Public sector banks have a different work culture and they will be helpful to employees with respet to issues like marriage of the self or sickness. iam sure you will get apositive response.

I recommend that you join first and proceed on leave since your seniority counts from the date of joining.

Dear Shazia,

Here's my suggestions for you:
  • Find out more about the leave policy and its validity during the probation period. Seek and understand how leave without pay is approved and under what conditions.
  • Find out your reporting authority. A talent acquisition team will have a little decision making capabilities in discretionary leaves. They would be prone to a knee-jerk reaction. Any request at the talent acquisition might alarm them unnecessarily. Please work your way to the right authority. When you ask your recruiter about the training programs and reporting authority , you will have a view on how to approach. You may even consider the Head of HR , as suggested by Saiseven.
  • Spend time with the exact HR/business Manager, sharing full intentions of working for the bank in the long term and how you have been waiting to work with them since last year. You have worked through a rejection to land this job. Present this intent with the HR. Share your record on regularity at work, with your past employers and offer them references on this.
  • Ask yourself what matters to you, being honest or taking a chance. They cant discontinue you after a month if you request a leave for marriage. However, the fact that you have raised this question proves how truly honest you want to remain.
  • In the bargain, you might get to continue with the job at IDBI but approved a shorter leave possibly without pay. This may not stand a bad bet. Prepare for options that you can provide them to adjust around the leave. You will be in the training period, so they can approve the leave as you remain non-billable.

Have faith, be prepared with the suggestions you have for them. Best should come to you. God bless you !
