Hi All,
In my company there is an employee who has taken many leaves during his probation period . 8 leaves in 6 months of probation period. Besides he is always on personal calls and chats. Pls let me know the conditions to extend his probation period. And can we extend probation period in such cases. His performance is of average level. On what basis the probation period is extended . Which points are taken into consideration during such cases?

Request you take Appraisal feedback of that employee from Immediate reporting Authority + HoD. Based on the recommendation you can can extend the Probation period upto 06 month.

Hi Shlvhn,
Your concern is very well valid. But my suggestion is you never extend any employees probation unless he is a below average performer. In your case you mentioned that he is an average performer. If you extend his probation in this case it will negatively effect his mind set and then his performance will go down even more. If the person is on calls and chats that is okay. You may want a uniform IT policy implemented across the company to deny access to chats. Calls should be permitted.
See as long as he doesn't have an attitude problem (ofcourse without he being instigated). Things are fine. There is some level of freedom that has to be given to employees in order for them to perform better.
