Hi
I am connected with one Start up firm in Mobile Applications (employee strength - 40) in Delhi / NCR, According to our Leave Policy, we have- 18 PL & 12 CL/SL in a year.
One of my Director (who recently joined) thinks that we are giving very high number of leaves to employees & according to him in a Start up no. of leaves must be lesser than 20 in a year.
For the same, he asked me to research on Start ups for their leave balances & average leave taken by an employee in a year.
Please let me know in a Start up what should be the Number of leaves (PL & SL/CL) & approximately / average how many leaves an employee use to take in a year.
To help in my research would request you to share your Company's data.
Regards

Hi Careercruise,
I'm not aware of total no. of leaves in start up company but I can share my views with you. I'm also working in start up company. We are giving 12 CL every year means 1 CL every month and 10 national Holidays and we also have Saturday & Sunday fixed off.
Hope it helps you.

There is no special relaxation or special leverage for leaves of any startup companies as per the act is concerned.

Dear Nisha ans Saji
Thanks for your inputs.
I know there is no special law/act for Start up regarding leaves. i just want to know what is the industry trend or practice for start ups in case of Leaves.
And i also want to know what is the average number of leaves an employee usually takes in a Calendar year specially in start ups.
In my Company we have total 30 Leaves in a cal. yr (PL=18 , CL/SL = 12) & average leaves taken by an employee in a yr is = 20
which is i think quite high...So we are planning to revise our Leave policy for the same we required some real companies data so that we can frame revised leave policy.

You can revise the policy for eligibility of EL/PL which can be after 240 days, for SL/CL it will be on pro rata basis. But any policy wherein the benefits are below the criteria mentioned by the Act is unlawful.

Dear .....
You haven\'t mentioned the state and the Act in which your organization is registered. Every Act is clear on Leave, for eg. If we take Bombay Shops and Establishment Act. 1948, Chapter VII clearly indicates that you need to give 21 days leave in a year. Companies have to give additional holiday on 26 Jan, 1 May, 15 Aug and 2 Oct..
Regards,
Ravi
