Create a brand for the organisation. Now a days even freshers are more concerned about the brand of the organisations they join. If you have a brand in the market, you will be able to get good candidates. Obviously, you should also offer good package with social security. There has been tendency to ignore companies which have lengthy notice periods and those who do not have social securities like EPF. At the same time, if you are legally complaint, you can win the confidence of the employees working there. Naturally, they will extend it by their word of mouth, and will send a message that the organisation is employee friendly.

Dear Deeksha Gupta,

You have asked how to attract better candidates to your company. The reply has been given to you. But before thinking about attracting the candidates three things merit contemplation.

The first one is not only you should be able to attract candidates but these should be talented candidates as well. What is the use of attracting the candidates rejected by the other companies?

Above all, it is worth checking whether the employees on the roll think your organisation is attractive. If in the eyes of the current employees, the organisation is not attractive, then it could impact their motivation. This, in turn, will impact the motivation of the newly joined employees. The cycle will go on endlessly.

Lastly, what about the ex-employees? Do they talk positively about your company? Will they 'yes' or 'no' to a would-be candidate? Their referral or non-referral carries a lot of value.

What about your company's review of the portals like mouthshut.com? Before applying for a job, the candidates check the reviews and then decide whether or not to apply for a vacant position.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar
